Stana Katic was born April 26, 1978 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from West Aurora High School in Illinois, she studied international law and economics at the University of Toronto, then went on to study acting at the DePaul University Goodman School of Drama and the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
Stana made her feature debut in the shot-on-video thriller “Shut-Eye” and landed guest appearances on a variety of TV series including ‘Alias,’ ‘The Shield,’ ’24,’ and ‘Heroes.’ Stana landed the role as Detective Kate Beckett on ABC’s Castle in 2008 and portrayed the character for 8 seasons. Stana’s film work includes ‘CBGB’, ‘For Lovers Only’, ‘The Spirit’, ‘Feast of Love’, and most recently ‘Sister Cities’, ‘The Rendezvous,’ and ‘Lost in Florence.’
Stana has three award nominations and seven wins — including three People’s Choice Awards, a PRISM Award, and three TV Guide Awards. In 2008 she established her own production company, Sine Timore Films, which in Latin means Irreverent.
In 2010, Stana founded a non-profit organization called The Alternative Travel Project, a global initiative encouraging people to go car-free for just one day. The Alternative Travel Project (ATP) focuses efforts on creating a worldwide community of people looking to enjoy the social, health and environmental benefits of traveling alternatively.
Stana currently resides in Los Angeles, speaks five languages, and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada
